Ever since I met Rhonda Scarbrough back in 2002, she has been a great inspiration in my life. She took me under her wing with no hesitation just as she did with other youth. Rhonda exposed me to a way of thinking and believing that I had given up on. She encouraged me from where I was at during that time in my life; she did not try to tell me the generic responses to my situations (“everything is going to be ok”). Instead she took the time to get to know me. She did not stand in judgment nor did she criticize me. Rhonda met me where I was and loved me for who I was. The mentoring that she offered me throughout the years still prevails. Rhonda let me know that in spite of what my current situation was I still could come out on top. She never made me feel like my life’s journey would be easy but it was something I could endure. She helped me to acknowledge things about me that I would have never seen without her. Even now, Rhonda continues to remind me of who I am and what I am capable of.
